A good Victorian mahogany chest of ash lined graduated drawers made by C Hindley & Sons of Oxford Street London - fitted with good quality brass Hobbs locks.

  • Miles & Edwards of 134 Oxford Street were cabinet makers and upholsterers between 1822 and 1844 when they were taken over by Charles Hindley & Sons, rug and floor cloth manufacturers (Furniture History Society, Dictionary of English Furniture Makers, pp. 433 & 606). Thereafter, the latter established trade at the Oxford Street premises where their business as high quality cabinet makers flourished, earning them a Royal Appointment, and a part in the Great Exhibition.
