An early 17th century Northern Italian Cypress Adige Chest which was used for storing tapestries, valuable and fragile textiles. The front board decorated with pen-work figures in landscapes, defined against a recessed punch-work sky  - partitioned  by soldiers in arches.  Opens to reveal a poker-work  decorated interior. Cypress and cedar used for their insect repellent qualities. The till compartment to the left minus the divider and swing top.     Several hinge changes over the years.
