They often originated from the West Indian coast, from Surat down past Bombay. Local craftsmen made them from teak and other hardwoods and then transported onwards down the coast to Africa. Majority of these chests were imported from the Gulf, initially with the transfer of Omani power to Zanzibar in the 19th century. 41”w x 18 ½”h x 19”d 104cm w x 47cm h x 48cm d   circa 1910 £985 BACK
