A late 20th century oil on board

"The Estuary"

William Dealtry (1915 - 2007)

20”w x 14 ½"h

51cm w x 37h

£395

William was born in York 2015 and although painting had always been a part of his life (he was early on encouraged by his great friend and mentor Fred Lawson), it was not, he felt a paying proposition, so he trained as a chemist and spent many of his early years employed at Rowntree in York. Later he ran an art shop in Pickering and supplemented his income by selling his paintings. He also became well known in the area as a much  respected art teacher specialising in adult education.

But if the North York Moors were his first love then the Scottish Highlands were undoubtedly his second. His father-in-law had been a fisherman at Gairloch in West Ross so William got to know the area well. His love affair with the highlands lasted throughout his life. He spent every holiday there, in latter years renting a cottage at Ardnamurchan overlooking the Isle of Mull.
